Anne Thomas Manes, vice president and research director at Burton Group, observes that, "LAMP is becoming increasingly popular in the enterprise, and there is a clear need for an industrial strength, easy-to-use infrastructure to support next-generation applications."
Peter Yared, CEO of ActiveGrid and former CTO of the Sun Application Server Division, adds, "With the addition of enterprise-grade features, LAMP is now a serious contender to costly and complex J2EE and .NET initiatives. The technology innovation and collaboration we're experiencing in the open source community is unprecedented -- Enterprise Web 2.0 can't be beat for its capabilities, openness, and economics."
ActiveGrid Delivers Enterprise Web 2.0
The acronym "LAMP" originated in 1998, and has been quietly gaining momentum as it has become more widely used by leading Internet sites such as Google, Sabre, and Amazon. ActiveGrid productizes the LAMP stack, delivering enterprise-grade features on a "scale out" LAMP architecture, with two products, ActiveGrid Application Builder 1.0 and ActiveGrid LAMP Application Server 1.0.
ActiveGrid Application Builder is a Web 2.0 rapid application development environment that offers developers graphical editors and easy-to-use scripting languages. The tool is oriented towards enabling corporate developers to rapidly create applications with rich user interfaces that integrate their existing back-ends and applications. ActiveGrid Application Builder natively employs the latest XML standards, including XML Schema, BPEL, XForms, XPath, and WSDL.
ActiveGrid LAMP Application Server augments the proven LAMP stack with enterprise features like session management, Web Services interoperability, and transaction management. The server is designed to seamlessly integrate and extend existing back-end systems and software-as-a-service applications into new services and applications. The ActiveGrid LAMP Application Server can flexibly deploy rich Web 2.0 applications to virtually any ISP, or scale up to 1,024 commodity machines without changing a single line of code.
ActiveGrid is partnering with the key principals of the LAMP stack, including Linux distributors Novell and Red Hat, Apache committer Covalent, MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, and PHP authors Zend.
Marten Mickos, CEO of MySQL AB, comments, "The LAMP stack is rapidly gaining momentum, and is today an alternative to J2EE and .NET. ActiveGrid makes the LAMP stack stronger in the enterprise by adding cohesive features for development and deployment."
