We’ve been through the VMware new hire orientation (quite well done, I might add.) We’ve moved into our new office space with VMware (71 Stevenson St, San Francisco, if you care). Many thanks to Chloe for managing the many details required when moving an office. Some of us have brand new 24 inch monitors (I’m one of the lucky ones, others will get their’s soon). But what the WaveMaker community really wants to know is “when is the next release and what’s in it?”
Let me start by answering “what’s in it?” The WaveMaker 6.3 DevBuild (available here) is the best way to find out what’s there. If you prefer to read about the release rather than download, read the release notes. WM 6.3 will likely include a few other features, including a Studio localization capability, but the current DevBuild includes most of the features that will be in WM 6.3. Please try it out and give us feedback.
Now the hard question, “when?” We are working through a few issues with the open source licenses of the components integrated into WaveMaker. Once the license issues are resolved, we will create a release schedule accordingly. I think you will find that WM 6.3 will be worth the wait.
WaveMaker 6.3 will also remain open source. VMware has made a strong commitment to open source so WaveMaker will continue to be open source. Mark Brewer, the Vice President of Operations for the SpringSource business unit, told InfoWorld “VMware plans to keep offering WaveMaker under an open-source license, Brewer said. It will sell support services such as training and consulting.”
Once we have finalized the plan for WaveMaker 6.3 I will provide an update in this blog.
